82 Years Ago – November 19 – 23, 1942: Operation Uranus. Three years after the start of World War II a successful strategic operation was launched and fought on the Eastern Front. The Soviet Union’s counteroffensive turned the Battle of Stalingrad around by which the Soviet Army encircled the German Sixth Army. It is considered by historian a great battle. It marked a turn in the war favouring the allies as a result of the Soviets putting a stop to the German advancement.
